Diapers
- In most cases, washing the diapers with a laundry soap (Cheer,
Ivory, etc.) and double rinsing are adequate. The "enzyme" detergents appear to
cause many skin allergies and should be avoided. Occasionally the child may develop diaper
rash which will not respond to simple treatment. In this case, be sure that the infant's
skin is washed well after each diaper change. Using one to two
tablespoons of vinegar in the diaper pail help kill certain ammonia-producing bacteria.
Plastic pants should not be used it the infant has a diaper rash.
- If a diaper rash appears, leaving the area open to dry is
helpful. If the diaper rash continues despite this treatment the child should be seen in
by a physician in case further medication may by indicated.
NEVER USE BORIC ACID IN ANY FORM. (It is not antiseptic and
may cause poisoning.) |
